Paraguay joins DESIGNclass

As of 22 July 2024, the National Directorate of Intellectual Property of the Republic of Paraguay (DINAPI) is part of DESIGNclass and will use and accept the list of terms from the harmonised database of product indications (HDBPI) in DESIGNclass.

Following DINAPI’s decision to use HDBPI, the total number of participating IP offices is 44 with 19 of these offices being from non-EU countries. This follows DINAPIs adoption of TMclass, another flagship tool of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), which took place in May 2023.

DESIGNclass is a tool that offers users the opportunity to search and translate product indications in 30 languages. With user-friendly functions, it enables users find the most suitable HDBPI for their designs ensuring proper classification and protection.

The HDBPI was jointly created by the EU Intellectual Property Offices (EU IP Offices) and the EUIPO to better map the diverse range of products eligible for design protection.

The adoption of the HDBPI by DINAPI is a concrete result of the Action AL-INVEST Verde IPR initiative, funded by the European Commission and implemented by the EUIPO, and follows the integration of the National Institute of Industrial Property of Argentina (INPI-AR) into DesignClass in May 2023.
