Ingenias LATAM

 

The award ceremony of Ingenias LATAM 2025 for women inventors took place on 4 September 2025 in Santiago de Chile. The winners are:

  • Dr Alessandra Alves De Souza (Brazil), geneticist and inventor of the agricultural use of the molecule N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) and its analogues for the treatment and prevention of bacterial diseases and disorders in citrus fruits.
  • Silvana Herrera Leiva (Chile), product designer and inventor of a sensory band for the detection of obstacles in the visual field of visually impaired people.
  • Dr. Gladys Antonieta Rojas de Arias (Paraguay), biologist and inventor of compounds derived from 2,5-dihydroxybenzyl for the treatment of Chagas disease and leishmaniasis.
  • María Inés Costa Saravia (Uruguay), graphic design technician and inventor of a manual crochet knitting tool that mechanically retracts after each stitch and keeps the yarn tension constant.

Ingenias LATAM Award

4 September 2025, Santiago de Chile

The Ingenias LATAM Award is an initiative of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the context of the EU-funded project AL-INVEST Verde IPR. Its main objective is to showcase women innovators from Latin-America and their creations and inventions on an international stage.

The first edition will be hosted by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) of Chile, a global leader in fostering an inclusive IP landscape. The focus of which will be on women inventors.

Who can participate?

If you are a women inventor owning (a) registered patent(s) or utility model(s) and you are a citizen of one of the participating countries: Brazil, Chile, Paraguay or Uruguay, this is your chance to stand out on an international stage.

What’s the prize?

  • International visibility on a platform dedicated to innovation
  • Production of a mini-documentary about the inventor and her invention.
  • Participation in the award ceremony in Santiago de Chile on 4 September 2025, travel and accommodation expenses included.
