The National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) of Brazil and EUIPO (through the AL-INVEST Verde IPR project) have released the ‘Intellectual Property Guide for Exporters – European Union (EU)’ to support Brazilian exporters with intellectual property (IP) protection in the EU. The Guide is part of INPI Brazil’s ‘IP Guides for Exporters’ series and was prepared by INPI with the technical collaboration of experts of the EU-funded project AL-INVEST Verde IPR implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

 The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) co-organised and participated in the fourth National Forum on Intellectual Property and Innovation – IP LET Forum 2025. The event titled ‘Intellectual Property: Law, Economy, Technology’ took place on 27 November in Kyiv, Ukraine. 

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has successfully completed the provision of technical assistance to Paraguay’s National Directorate of Intellectual Property (DINAPI) through the EU-funded AL-INVEST Verde IPR project. Implemented between April and November 2025, the activity consisted in the elaboration of a comprehensive study on the modernization of the Paraguayan Designs Law No. 868/81.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), through the EU-funded project AL-INVEST Verde IPR, published the ‘Compendium of Trade Mark Case Law in the MERCOSUR countries and Chile’. It provides an important reference resource to strengthen the consistent application and enforcement of intellectual property (IP) rights in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in cooperation with the European Commission, hosted a two-day high-level conference on copyright from 20-21 November 2025 at its headquarters in Alicante, Spain. The event brought together EU institutions, policymakers, national intellectual property (IP) offices, copyright experts and representatives from the cultural and creative sectors to celebrate copyright in the EU and reflect on the latest policy challenges in the field. 

CarIPI II aims to relaunch its Origin Linked Products (OLP) Mentorship Programme on potential GIs value chains, building on the progress made during the previous project phase, when mentors from the region and the EU worked closely with producer groups to assess their business models and provide tailored recommendations to protect these OLPs.

Strong IP systems are key drivers for innovation, economic diversification, and sustainable growth. However, many micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in the CARIFORUM region still lack awareness of how to use IP strategically, whether in their daily operations or as a financial asset, which limits their access to capital and weakens their competitiveness in domestic and international markets.

For IP rights to be recognised as vital tools for economic, social and cultural development, and not merely as trade-related obligations, countries need more than strong institutional frameworks. Fostering cultural change through ongoing awareness and education is equally as important.

A key objective of CarIPI II is the full integration of CARIFORUM IP office data into TMview. This project activity will support more efficient workflows, improved data consistency and better service delivery for users across the region. In this project phase, CarIPI will also start working on the integration of CARIFORUM IP office industrial designs data into DesignClass, the global search and classification tool for industrial design rights.

Under AWP 1, CarIPI II will continue to deliver capacity-building training sessions for national IP office staff to support them on their path to becoming well-resourced and efficient institutions. To ensure a lasting impact, the project will establish a continuous training programme that will focus on trade marks.
