On 26 April, we celebrate World IP Day 2022, focusing on the theme of IP and Youth innovating for a Better Future! We welcome and encourage young people to channel their energy and creativity towards bringing their innovative ideas to life and driving the positive changes in the world while utilising the IP tools!

Are you a university student or young innovator that harbours creative ideas and is concerned about intellectual property? We want to hear from you! Create and upload a two-minute video in which you talk about your IP journey or share your views on the benefits of intellectual property protection in an original, imaginative and informative way!

What is the aim of the competition?

This competition aims to promote intellectual property education, shape students’ core values and attitudes and raise public awareness about the benefits of intellectual property protection and the harm of IP infringements in both Cambodia and the Philippines, with a special focus being put on SMEs.

We are reaching out to students in the two countries who are undertaking a degree range of majors, from law to entrepreneurship, and who have an interest in industrial property, namely trademarks, industrial designs, and geographical indications (GIs), among others, and who are seeking opportunities to turn their vision into reality.

We are seeking to hear your views on intellectual property, learn more about your ideas and experiences via the videos you submit and, together, promote the various ways that intellectual property can help SMEs to protect their assets, benefit their staff, and grow their businesses.

So, get your camera or phone ready, and create your short video to answer one or more of the following questions:

  • “Are you (and young people) aware of how many intellectual property rights (IPRs) surround you (such as industrial designs of electronic devices or cars, trademarks of popular brands, or copyrights of your favourite music)? What role do they play in your work, leisure and social life?”
  • “How do you value the ownership of your ideas? What does it mean for you to be recognised for an idea or work that you came up with?”
  • “What harm is caused by IP infringement? Share your views and experiences with us.”
  • “Why should young people/small businesses care about intellectual property and how will it benefit them?”
  • “Intellectual property: what are the benefits for SMEs and how can they use IP to grow?”
  • “What are the benefits of geographical indications, trademarks or industrial designs or copyright?”
