International webinar: Women in Creative Industries and Intellectual Property

The international webinar is organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay through the Department of Creative Industries (Dicrea) of the Creative Economy Area of the National Directorate of Culture, and the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining of Uruguay through the National Directorate of Industrial Property (DNPI).

In the broad landscape of creative industries, diverse voices enrich the cultural narrative. Yet women artists and entrepreneurs encounter systemic barriers on their path to recognition. To assess this, the webinar aims to empower women in creative industries to navigate the intellectual property (IP) landscape effectively, by fostering dialogue, sharing insights, and catalysing change.

The protection and proper management of intellectual property (IP) are key to the success and recognition of women in the creative field. Access to and effective use of IP rights will be essential for them to capitalise on intangible business values. However, it appears that women do not participate and benefit equally in the IP system, creating a gender gap.

To address this issue, the webinar intends to amplify women’s voices, spotlighting esteemed panellists from Latin America and the European Union to share their experiences and perspectives regarding gender-related challenges and opportunities in creative fields like audiovisual, film, music, and literature. This aimed at encouraging women to protect and leverage their creative assets effectively to achieve greater inclusivity and validation in the global creative arena.

The panelists of the webinar are:

  • Hilda Lizarazu, Singer and composer, Argentina
  • Simone Oliveira, Director of Globo Filmes, Brazil
  • Mercedes Rosende, Writer, Uruguay
  • Claudia Lorena Franco Quevedo, National Director of Intellectual Property, Paraguay

The webinar will be moderated by: Carolina Arias Burgos, Economist and Research Expert, Spain.
