The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the context of the EU-funded project AL-INVEST Verde IPR, actively participated in the Inova Amazônia Summit 2025 held in Macapá, Brazil from 21-23 May. As the largest bioeconomy-focused event in the Amazon region, the Summit brings together over 5,000 entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, and sustainability advocates to shape the future of green development in the Amazon.

The webinar is organized in collaboration with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) to strengthen and highlight the importance of design protection in the creative industries, based on insights from the EUIPO and INPI Brazil on legal frameworks, enforcement, and industry best practices. The webinar will address EU best practices on designs, supporting the uptake and management of IP in creative sectors while fostering collaboration between IP institutions and academia to enhance innovation and economic value.

The webinar is organized in collaboration with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) to strengthen IPR knowledge in the creative industries. The event aims to support creative professionals and policymakers by providing insights into the EU copyright framework, highlighting strategies for protecting creative works, avoiding infringement, and maximizing the economic potential of IPRs.

The overarching objective of this activity series is to establish virtual community groups that enable MERCOSUR, Chilean, and EU IPOs to regularly meet, exchange best practices, and jointly develop innovative, user-oriented IP solutions. Through continuous collaboration and shared technical insights, the series promotes a best-practice-based approximation across participating offices, leading to stronger, more harmonized approaches to patent, trade mark, and design management.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the context of the EU-funded IP cooperation project AL-INVEST Verde IPR, launched a new mentorship in April in Minas Gerais, Brazil, for Brazilian coffee producers with geographical indications (GIs).

As AI and digital technologies continue to evolve, they have the potential to facilitate IP protection, both for the IP Offices providing IP services and for the businesses, creators and IP professionals who are in a position to better manage their IP with the help of AI. This meeting explored what stage the IP Offices in Korea and in the EU are currently at in implementing AI in their respective offices. The meeting looked at the extent to which AI was being implemented to support the IP services these offices provide.

The Inova Amazônia Summit is a major event organized by SEBRAE and other Brazilian stakeholders, aimed at mobilising, integrating, and connecting the bioeconomy and innovation ecosystem of the Amazon, attracting 5,000 qualified participants.
