Regional training on Geographical Indications: AsiaGI

AsiaGI is a training programme on geographical indications (GIs) that will be organised in October-December 2022 by CIRAD (Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement) and REDD (Réseau Echange Developpement Durable). The training aims to promote the protection of GIs in Asia as a tool for regional development and to provide GI stakeholders in Asia with basic but comprehensive coverage of GIs, including understanding GIs as intellectual property and market access and protection tools, their potential contribution to local and sustainable development, and so on.

In its previous Annual Work Plans (AWPs), ARISE+ IPR has provided support to both physical and online AsiaGI training programmes by sponsoring the participation and allowing GI and potential GI producers, as well as key IP Officials responsible for GIs in all 10 ASEAN IP Offices, to attend these programmes. Until now, 37 participants have participated and benefitted from these training programmes. A number of potential GI producers attended the training and were registered as GIs in their respective countries afterwards, including Khao Kai Noi (Lao PDR), Mondulkiri Honey Bee (Cambodia), etc.

Under this Activity, ARISE+ IPR will continue to support the AsiaGI training by sponsoring the participation of GI producers and IP Officials from interested ASEAN member states. The training is expected to take place online from 17 October 2022 to 2 December 2022.
