Meeting with Myanmar officials to discuss establishment of a national IP office

ARISE+ IPR is supporting the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) to hold a meeting with officials in Naypyidaw, Myanmar, on 11-12 June to discuss technical requirements for the establishment of a national IP office in the country. Topics to be covered include implementation plans and procedures, corporate governance, financial management, human resources, IT infrastructure, examination guidelines, and training, among other aspects.  

Myanmar passed new trademark, patent, copyright and industrial design laws earlier this year, heralding the introduction of more modern legal frameworks for IP. The new laws are expected to come into effect once a presidential notification is issued, following the establishment of appropriate administrative structures and implementing regulations.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Japan Patent Office (JPO), and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) will also participate in the meeting.
