ARISE+ IPR contribution to AsiaGI training

To enhance the value of local products and inform geographical indications (GI) producers in the ASEAN region about how they can benefit from having their GIs protected, ARISE+ IPR is supporting the 5th and 6th editions of the AsiaGI training in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

AsiaGI is a 1-week training course on GIs hosted every year in one ASEAN country. The 5th edition of AsiaGI, the e-AsiaGI 2020, took place online between 12 October and 13 November 2020. More than 20 GI producers, IP officials and government officials from IP-related and agriculture-related ministries will have an opportunity to participate in training on the concepts of GIs, the GI protection system and marketing and branding strategies, among other topics. ARISE+ IPR will sponsor the participation of GI producers and IP Officials from all the ASEAN member states in this training opportunity.

Following the success of the e-AsiaGI 2020, ARISE+ IPR continued to provide support to the e-AsiaGI 2021. The training was organised virtually from 1 March and 2 April 2021. Participants spent 5-6 hours a week to participate in the five-week training. The training consisted of pre-recorded videos, readings, quizzes, group work, an online forum, and 1-2 online meetings a week for questions and answers.
