Maximising intellectual property for sustainable growth and competitiveness
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) organised a two-day webinar on Leveraging Intellectual Property for Sustainable Growth and Competitiveness on 19 and 20 September 2024 in the context of the EU-funded IP cooperation project AL-INVEST Verde IPR.
Organised with the National Institute for Industrial Property or Argentina (INPI) and the Argentine Confederation of Medium-sized Enterprises (CAME), the online event brought together entrepreneurs, IP professionals, academics and students from across Europe, Argentina and other Latin-American countries. These participants were all interested in strengthening their knowledge of innovation valuation through the strategic management of intellectual property (IP) rights.
The first day focused on strategies to maximise the value of intangible assets and the importance of IP in innovation and competitiveness. Expert panellists from academic and professional fields shared information on different approaches for IP rights asset valuation, underlining their impact on IP contracts and the need for valuation in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
A presentation on mechanisms for technology asset exploitation followed, highlighting the role of technology marketing and new scenarios for knowledge sharing in academic institutions. The day finished with a round-table discussion on the impact of intangibles on business competitiveness, where industry experts and researchers shared their experiences with technology transfers in Latin America and the European Union (EU).
The second day centred around strategic management to reinforce the connection between IP and sustainable development. The sessions addressed managing innovation as well as the components and governance of innovation ecosystems. Subsequent panels covered new trends in IP management and cases on branding and the systematisation of IP-based innovation management, focusing on creating a sustainable environment.
The panels included practical sessions with real-life experiences of technology transfers by innovative SMEs. One example was Laboratorios Química Luar, an Argentinian company specialised in developing innovative pharmaceutical products for respiratory conditions.
This event is an example of the excellent cooperation established between the EUIPO and INPI Argentina and CAME, the two-day webinar provided participants with practical tools and up-to-date knowledge on the latest trends in IP management, IP valuation and strengthened IP alliances.
