The EU4IP - Western Balkan project is closely aligned with the geostrategic objective of the European Union to move forward with EU accession negotiations for the Western Balkan partners. It contributes to the ‘Growth Plan for the Western Balkans’ by:

  1. enhancing economic integration with the EU’s internal market through converging IP laws and practices;
  2. promoting economic integration within the regions through the Common Regional Market (CRM) and creating a robust IP environment in line with EU standards and EUIPO practices;
  3. accelerating fundamental reforms in the field of IP at a legal and technical level.

The project is designed to strengthen IP systems in the region and accelerate gradual integration with the EU. Building on the EU4IP model component 1, the initiative works hand‑in‑hand with IP offices, relevant public and enforcement authorities, and policy makers. This work aligns legislation and practices with EU regulations, implements shared IT tools and common examination practices, and enhances user‑oriented services.

This EU-funded project is implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) with an initial duration of 36 months, beginning January 2026.
