Cohort 1 Mentorship Programme – Online Meetings

On 19 January 2024, CarIPI will hold an online wrap up meeting, hosting its Origin-linked Products (OLPs) producers’ groups from Cohort 1 of the Mentorship Programme. They will go through the recommendations made by experts on how these groups can improve their product using intellectual property (IP) tools.

Creativity and IP in School: regional meeting

On 20 February the CarIPI project organised an online consultation meeting with CARIFORUM IP Offices and Ministries of Education to present the results of the work carried out under this activity, namely a regional strategy to introduce IP in primary and secondary schools of CARIFORUM and the material for teachers and students based on the EUIPO’s ideaspowered@school project and adapted to the Caribbean context.

Hands-on IP Scan training for regional BSOs and SMEs

On 29 January 2024, CarIPI hosted a workshop for regional business support organisations (BSOs) and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to present IP Scan cases as part of the IP Scan initiative in the CARIFORUM region.

Previous work under the ‘IP Scan and IP Valuation for MSMEs’ activity has included three IP Scans in the Caribbean region. These three specific IP Scan cases involving Caribbean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will be presented to demonstrate the potential of IP Scans.

EU and Trinidad and Tobago forge a new IP cooperation agreement

In October 2023, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and Trinidad and Tobago have signed an agreement on the maintenance of tools, applications and practices, in which the Intellectual Property Office of Trinidad and Tobago (TTIPO) participates. The agreement confirms their intention to integrate European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN) tools, such as TMview and DesignView.

Webinar on Intellectual Property, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions for Dominica

On 18 October 2023, the CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation (CarIPI) project, the World Intellectual Property Office, and the Registrar of the Companies and Intellectual Property Office of Dominica, held a webinar together on the subject of intellectual property, traditional knowledge and traditional expressions. 

The aim of this activity was to raise intellectual property awareness among public officials and stakeholders in the indigenous and local communities in Dominica.

IP in School Project: Train the Trainer Workshops

From 27 to 28 November 2023, the CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation project organised a webinar series of ‘train the trainer’ courses for primary and secondary school teachers from Antigua and Barbuda, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Education experts introduced CarIPI’s IP in Education project. The sessions included an overview of materials created by the EUIPO and pedagogical methodologies to educate students on intellectual property.

Manual on Descriptiveness of Trade Marks in Absolute Grounds in (selected) CARIFORUM IP Offices

On 15 September 2023, the CARIFORUM Intellectual Property and Innovation Project (CarIPI) published a manual on Types of Marks and Descripveness of Trade Marks as a result of the joint efforts of the Intellectual Property (IP) offices/registries of Barbados, Belize, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), today we are publishing a Manual on Descriptiveness of trade marks.

Mentorship Programme: technical assistance meetings

From 13 - 17 November, CarIPI has scheduled technical assistance sessions with producers of Origin-linked Products (OLPs) from the CARIFORUM region. These producers have been selected to take part in the second phase of the project’s Mentorship Programme. During their field mission, the mentor team will be visiting sponge producers from the Bahamas, steelpan producers from Trinidad and Tobago and arrowroot producers from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
