1st ASEAN IP Academy Meeting

The meeting, to be attended by representatives of all 10 ASEAN IP Offices as well as ASEC is one of the first steps to carry out  a “Feasibility study on an ASEAN IP Academy”, which directly supports the ASEAN IPR Action Plans Initiative 7.1. The purpose of the study is to assess the most feasible mechanism for the establishment of the ASEAN IP Academy, taking into account the region’s requirements and accessibility and availability of new technology to stakeholders and users.

Winners announced for Creative ASEAN Furniture Design Contest 2018

The winners of the Creative ASEAN Furniture Design Contest were announced during the awards ceremony at Style Fair 2018 in Bangkok on 17 October. Organised by the EU-funded ARISE+ IPR programme and the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Thailand, the contest aims to raise awareness among designers in the region on the importance of creativity and protecting their intellectual property.

Entries evaluated for ASEAN furniture design contest

Design experts and IP officials met in Bangkok on 27 August to judge submissions for the Creative ASEAN Furniture Design Competition hosted by ARISE+ IPR and the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Thailand.  All entries were carefully evaluated against a comprehensive set of criteria, including technical aspects, aesthetics, originality and innovation.

DIP charity marathon highlights IP piracy prevention in Thailand

The ARISE+ IPR and IP Key SEA programmes were pleased to support the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) ‘Stop Piracy’ Mini Marathon held in Bangkok on 19 August. The ARISE+ IPR and IP Key SEA teams joined colleagues from the DIP and over 2,500 participants for a 5am start to the event. The marathon consisted of both 3km and 10km circuits.

Updating the ASEAN Common Guidelines for Substantive Examination of Trademarks

The 8th Trademark Consultation Meeting commenced in Bangkok on 15 August to discuss possible updates to the guidelines on the substantive examination of trademarks. ASEAN trademark experts, representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, and the ARISE+ IPR team discussed mechanisms for potential amendments to the ASEAN Common Guidelines for the Substantive Examination of Trademarks (Common TM Guidelines).

Madrid Protocol and Hague Agreement in practice

A series of training sessions held by the ARISE+ IPR team to support post-accession of certain ASEAN countries to the Madrid Protocol and the Hague Agreement commenced on 14 August in Bangkok. Officials representing different IP offices will participate in Thailand (14-15 August), Lao PDR (20-21 August), Cambodia (23-24 August) and Indonesia (27-28 August) the Madrid Protocol trainings. All four countries became members of the Madrid Protocol between 2015-2017, with Cambodia also joining the Hague Agreement in 2017.
