AWGIPC briefed on status of ARISE+ IPR studies

The ARISE+ IPR management team held a consultation session with heads of the ASEAN IP offices at the 57th Meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation (AWGIPC) on 27 November in Siem Reap, Cambodia. They discussed ARISE+ IPR activities from the first-year annual work plan, including a briefing on the progress of feasibility studies for an ASEAN IP academy and an ASEAN trademark registration system, both of which are in the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2016-2025. The ARISE+ IPR team also discussed potential activities for the second-year work plan.

Seminars on geographical indications support ASEAN producers

The ARISE+ IPR team delivered a series of seminars on geographical indications (GIs) in Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Lao PDR and Thailand in November. The seminars provided advice and assistance to over 300 GI producers and GI association representatives across the region so they could better benefit from GI protection and improve the quality standards and control systems for their GIs.

International IP practices examined at briefing for Myanmar IP officials and SMEs

The “National Seminar on Protecting Brands, Inventions and Designs Overseas” for Myanmar IP officials and small-medium enterprises (SMEs) was held in Yangon on 12 November, highlighting the key types of IP, the EU and international registration systems, and international IP treaties. The event was organised by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and ARISE+ IPR, in cooperation with the Myanmar Intellectual Property Proprietors Association (MIPPA).

ASEAN IP officials discuss potential regional IP academy

Representatives from each of the ASEAN IP offices, the ASEAN Secretariat, and ARISE+ IPR experts attended a workshop in Bangkok on 31 October - 1 November to discuss a feasibility study on the possible establishment of an ASEAN IP Academy and evaluate some preliminary proposals.

Myanmar IP officials and SMEs to be briefed on international practices for trademarks, patents and designs

ARISE+ IPR and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in cooperation with the Myanmar Intellectual Property Proprietors Association (MIPPA), will organize the “National Seminar on Protecting Brands, Inventions and Designs Overseas” for Myanmar IP officials and SME representatives in Yangon on 12 November. The seminar will focus on administrative procedures and international best practices that may be considered in implementing the Myanmar IP laws once approved.
