DesignView becomes the world’s largest design image search engine
As of 9 February 2026, the DesignView search functionality for industrial design images has been implemented for all connected intellectual property (IP) offices, making it the largest search engine for design images in the world.
With the addition of images from 44 IP offices from outside of the European Union (EU), spanning Africa, Asia, the Americas and Oceania, DesignView’s image search functionality now covers data from 76 IP offices. This brings the total number of searchable images to over 111 million, an almost eightfold increase, allowing users to search and compare industrial design images from all participating IP offices.
Out of the 44 IP offices, six countries are from Southeast Asia, including Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. The EUIPO-implemented SCOPE IPR project supports these countries and all ASEAN Member States in strengthening industrial design protection and help businesses better leverage the benefits of their IP.
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and regional and national EU IP offices jointly launched DesignView in 2012 through the EUIPN as one of its first flagship tools. Since then, it has evolved into the world’s largest free online design database covering 24 million industrial designs and has now also become the worlds’ largest image-search system.
DesignView is a free, multilingual online consultation tool that enables users to search, view and compare industrial designs from participating IP offices worldwide in one platform. Available 24/7, it allows businesses, designers and examiners to visualise existing designs, assess novelty, monitor market trends and follow updates on registered designs. The tool also supports offices in examination processes and in assessing earlier rights.
This achievement is a tangible result of the Flagship Tools IP Alliance, an initiative of the EUIPO's Strategic Plan SP2030. The alliance works to foster digitalisation, strengthen global IP cooperation and provide SMEs worldwide with reliable, high-quality IP tools that support innovation and growth
