Trade marks and industrial designs: strategies for businesses and SMEs in the global marketplace

Planned for July and August 2026, this series of roving seminars continues educational efforts aimed at businesses about the strategic value of trade marks and industrial designs in an increasingly global and digital marketplace. Building on earlier activities under Annual Work Plan 2 (AWP2), the seminars will provide practical guidance on how businesses – particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as designers from the women and youth sectors – can protect, manage and commercialise their IP assets. The sessions will also highlight the role of trade marks and designs in helping consumers make informed choices in a competitive and ‘borderless’ marketplace.

In accordance with Strategic Measure 4 of the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2026-2030, these seminars support the development of a stronger culture of IP awareness, respect and compliance across ASEAN Member States and are delivered in collaboration with ASEAN IP Offices. They will cover protection strategies at national, regional and international levels, including pathways for businesses seeking expansion into other ASEAN markets and the European Union. With sessions planned in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Viet Nam (including locations beyond major city centres), this initiative promotes inclusivity while strengthening the competitiveness of ASEAN businesses in the global economy.
