On-demand technical support to ASEAN integration: capacity-building and assistance to the enhancement of the IP regimes of Cambodia and Laos

Running from May 2026 to January 2027, this activity delivers targeted technical assistance and capacity-building support to Cambodia and Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) to strengthen their IP regimes. Recognising the differences in current IP systems across ASEAN Member States, the initiative is tailored to address the specific needs of both countries. Key support areas are trade mark examination, geographical indications (GIs) and developing examiner capabilities. With a focus on practical and country-specific priorities, the activity aids in narrowing development gaps and advancing regional IP integration.

Aligned with Strategic Measure 1 of the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2026-2030, this initiative also provides legal and policy support to enhance national IP frameworks. This will include diagnostic studies, gap analyses and technical assistance in drafting or revising IP laws, regulations and guidelines in accordance with international standards, such as the TRIPS Agreement and other relevant regional trade agreements. Delivered in close consultation with national authorities, the activity reinforces the EUIPO’s commitment to inclusive and balanced IP development across ASEAN Member States. In particular, by supporting Cambodia and Laos in building more robust, effective and internationally aligned IP systems.
