On-Demand Technical Assistance to Support the Protection and Enforcement of GI Regimes in ASEAN Countries

Running from June 2025 to April 2026, this activity offers flexible, expert-led technical assistance to ASEAN Member States in response to specific national needs related to the protection and enforcement of geographical indications (GIs). It supports requests that do not require a dedicated standalone activity but are important to sustaining long-term convergence and harmonisation of GI practices across the region. Among the priorities is the preparation of GI fiches to update the ASEAN GI Database, a vital tool for sharing information on ASEAN and EU GIs protected in the region. Another planned component is a focused workshop on best practices in GI enforcement, building on prior training held in Lao PDR in 2024.

This activity contributes to both Strategic Goal 1 and Strategic Goal 4 of the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2016-2025, enhancing the institutional capacity of IP Offices and supporting the commercialisation of GI-protected products. Assistance may include the provision of expert advice, legislative or regulatory support, or tailored inputs for GI development. Requests will be reviewed by the SCOPE IPR Programme Management Team in consultation with the ASEAN Secretariat and approved by the ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation (AWGIPC) through an inter-sessional process.
