ASEAN forum on geographical indications

This regional forum, taking place in May 2026, brings together geographical indication (GI) stakeholders from across ASEAN Member States and the European Union to strengthen cooperation, share best practices and promote the development of sustainable GI systems. Building on previous activities from AWP1 and AWP2, the forum serves as a platform for dialogue between national authorities, producers and producer associations on how GIs can enhance product value, support rural development and contribute to inclusive economic growth.

Aligned with Strategic Measure 5 of the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2026-2030, the forum supports efforts to promote IP for sustainable and inclusive development through regional and international exchange. Discussions will cover evolving GI frameworks and recent developments in both ASEAN and the EU, such as the protection of agricultural and non-agricultural GIs. Hosted by the Philippines, the forum will also feature contributions from EU experts and a parallel exhibition showcasing GI products from ASEAN and the EU. The display will highlight the role of GIs in strengthening local economies, preserving traditional knowledge and promoting fair trade.
