IP in School Project: Consultation Meeting
On 6 October 2022, CarIPI held an online meeting to present the objectives and content of the ‘IP in School’ project, with the aim of developing a regional strategy to help introduce the concepts of ‘Creativity and IP’ in the primary and secondary schools across the CARIFORUM region.
This consultation meeting targeted intellectual property offices of the CARIFORUM States and Ministries of Education.
Protecting plant genetic resources, traditional knowledge and folklore: global and regional perspectives
On 20 September 2022, the CarIPI project hosted a webinar to exchange good practices on systems that grant and regulate access to genetic resources, traditional knowledge and folklore.
The webinar was aimed at regional environmental professionals and institutions, plant breeders, museums and cultural industry practitioners, and R&D stakeholders who use genetic resources for product development or seek intellectual property protection for traditional knowledge and cultural expressions.
Horizon Europe and opportunities for research cooperation (Part II)
On 13 September 2022, the CarIPI project organised a second online session to follow up on the promotion of Horizon Europe, a programme for research cooperation between EU and CARIFORUM countries.
Second meeting of the ARIPO sub-group of the ad hoc working group on GIs
Following the first online meeting of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) sub-group of the ad hoc working group on Geographical Indications (GIs), which took place on 16 June 2022, the second meeting met at the ARIPO Secretariat in Harare, Zimbabwe, on 26 and 27 July. The two-day in person meeting was attended by representatives of the countries in the sub-working group namely: Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe being the host country. AfrIPI coordinated the African Session in the GI Conference in Montpellier, discussing innovative approaches
In July 2022, AfrIPI participated in the international conference ‘Worldwide perspectives on Geographical Indications: An International Conference for Researchers, Policy Makers and Practitioners’, organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), contributing to the dedicated discussions on recent practices and research between the academic world, practitioners’ network, and the policy sphere from all over the world.
Support for the Creation of an Association of Judges for OAPI Member States
On 12 to 14 October 2022, the African Intellectual Property Organisation (OAPI) and AfrIPI held a constitutive General Assembly of the Association of Judges in Dakar, Senegal.
The symposium aimed at adopting the statutes of the association of judges, electing the bureau of the association, addressing the ways in which the jurisprudential database works, and laying the foundations for the activities of the association. At the end of the symposium, the statutes of the association were adopted, and a bureau elected.
