Webinar on Intellectual Property, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions

On 30 November, CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation (CarIPI) partnered with the World Intellectual Property Office and the Government of Suriname to hold a webinar on the subject of genetic resources, traditional knowledge and folklore. The aim of this activity was to dig deeper into the subject matter and share an international, national and regional overview on intellectual property, traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions.

Official inauguration of AL-INVEST Verde IPR in Montevideo

On 21 November in Montevideo, the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of Uruguay, Omar Paganini, opens the official inauguration conference of the Action AL-INVEST Verde IPR. The Minister is accompanied at the opening by the Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to Uruguay, Paolo Berizzi, and the Head of the International Cooperation Service of the EUIPO, Ignacio de Medrano.

Suriname

Technical visit to the Bureau of Intellectual Property of Suriname

From 28 November to 2 December 2022, CarIPI organised a technical a visit to Suriname to present the new draft legislation on Design to the Intellectual Property Office of Suriname, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation, and any relevant stakeholders, such as legal drafters and ministry staff. This is to ensure that legislation and recommendations are implemented once delivered.

This activity aims to assist ASEAN Member States (AMS) in the creation and further development of an ASEAN Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Helpdesk. The support envisioned under this activity includes advisory services on the content and format, and technical support on the IT system for the ASEAN IPR Helpdesk.

As part of the LDCs constant strive for greater IP development, these countries have recently adopted their own National IP Strategies (NIPS). These have been revised and updated in 2020, and focus on widening IP education, providing support to the creative industries, and raising awareness on IP.

Support to the ASEAN Network of IPR Enforcement Experts (ANIEE)

The ASEAN Network of IPR Enforcement Experts (ANIEE) is made up of representatives from ASEAN Member States (AMS) involved in IP rights enforcement. The objective is to ensure that the AMS maintain a regional action plan on IP rights enforcement in line with the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2016-2025.

ARISE+ IPR will contribute to advancing enforcement initiatives under the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2016-2025 by supporting ANIEE’s enforcement agenda. The support will include the following.
