ARISE+ IPR hosted national seminars on Geographical Indications (GIs) in Brunei Darussalam and Hanoi, Viet Nam respectively on 18 September and 20 September, 2019.
ARISE+ IPR hosted technical workshops on Geographical Indications for GI producers in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand respectively from 23 to 27 September 2019.
These technical workshops were organized in the regions renowned for GIs and potential GIs products. In specific, the workshops were held respectively in Bali for Indonesian GI producers (on 23 September), in Sarawak region for Malaysian GI producers (on 25 September), and in Chiang Rai for Thai GI producers (on 27 September).
The ARISE+ IPR team supported IP officials from Cambodia and Lao PDR to attend the Advanced InterGI training on “The collective management of quality for Geographical Indications”, taking place from 23-28 September 2019 in Gruyere, Switzerland.
Between February 18th - 19th 2019, ARISE+ IPR team organized the 6th ASEAN IT Consultation meeting with the participation of all ten ASEAN Member States. The meeting focused on the maintenance and sustainability of the ASEAN IT tools: ASEAN TMview, ASEAN DesignView, and ASEAN TMclass. These tools were developed to improve the quality and transparency of IP services in the region. A support mechanism to ensure the continued availability and data quality as a way of improving overall user experience was also discussed.

The ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation (AWGIPC) designated IP Enforcement focal points, which constitute the ASEAN Network of IPR Enforcement Experts (ANIEE), in order to implement the IPR enforcement initiatives contained in the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2016-2025 and the ASEAN IPR Enforcement Action Plan.
Between April 24th - 25th 2018, ARISE+ IPR team supported the 2nd meeting of the ANIEE members to advance enforcement initiatives in the region.
This activity aims at providing legal and technical assistance to the accession to the Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks for interested ASEAN Member States. Following the discussions that took place during the 8th ASEAN Trademark Consultation Meeting (15-17 August 2018, Bangkok, Thailand), Lao PDR was identified as interested in partaking in this activity.
Between February 18th -19th 2019, ARISE+ IPR team organized the 3rd ASEAN Design Consultation Meeting with the participation of senior design officials from all ten ASEAN Member States. The key focus of the meeting was the ASEAN Common Guidelines on the Examination and Registration of Industrial Designs. Other areas of common interest, such as the Hague Agreement, the graphical representation of designs, and other common design practices, including the ASEAN initiative on the feasibility of harmonizing formality requirements in designs, were also discussed.
Between November 19th -20th of 2018, ARISE+ IPR team organized missions to Lao PDR and Cambodia and meet with representatives of the Intellectual Property Offices in order to support the setting-up of the IPR Helpdesks. The purpose of these meetings was to gather information, set expectations for the help desk project and reached agreements with the respected offices for the proposed structure of the helpdesks.
