CarIPI welcomes accession of the Republic of Suriname to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs (so-called “Geneva Act”).
The deposit of Suriname instrument of accession took place on 10 June 2020, whereas it will enter into force 3 months later, on 10 September 2020.

In June 2022, a delegation of the EUIPO composed of the Head of the International Cooperation Service, Ignacio de Medrano, and the Action Lead of AL-INVEST Verde IPR concluded several fact-finding missions to Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
The training is expected to strengthen the technical capacities and skills of the CF IP Offices staff on TM examination, with particular focus on TM opposition proceedings, and TM distinctiveness and likelihood of confusion.

The training aims at strengthening the technical capacities and skills of the CF IP Offices staff on TM and GI examination. The online training will particularly focus on the technical aspects regarding the relations between GIs and TMs (incl. collective, certification marks), PGIs and ex-officio examination of TM applications, PGIs and earlier TM rights in opposition.

Video 1 - Huge O'neill, EUIPO - Technical aspects of the relationship between GIs and TMs
The seminar is targeted at senior officers with responsibility in enforcement and experience in particular with IPR enforcement, from customs authorities and police of the 16 CARIFORUM countries. The objectives are to share good practice and recent trends on IPR enforcement matters between EU and CARIFORUM law enforcement agencies, and identify the main challenges and discuss potential future activities that CarIPI can facilitate. Topics such as the cooperation between Customs authorities and right holders, and Risk Management Systems in this first interaction will feature.
25 June - Protecting non-EU Geographical Indications in the EU
The training objective is to enhance the CARIFORUM IP Offices’ technical know-how in relation to the GI examination process and criteria applied in the EU, with a view to facilitate protection in the EU of GIs protected in the CF region.
