Alignment of Common Practices with the European Union Intellectual Property Network

The European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN) has created several common practices ensuring that applications for trade mark and design registrations, as well as examination, are consistent across EU national and regional IP offices. Besides those adopted in 2020, Sakpatenti has expressed interest in exploring the adoption of new trade mark and design practices available for non-EU IP offices.

Webinar “Coordination of Risk Management Systems”

This webinar targeted senior officers from Customs Authorities of the 16 CARIFORUM countries with experience in IPR enforcement.

In particular, EU and CARIFORUM enforcement experts discussed recent trends on risk management systems, with many examples from the region, and focus to the present day IPR infringements in Pharma (Covid-19).

The ASEAN Trade Mark Convergence Network aims to develop new content to improve the ASEAN Common Guidelines on Trade Marks, the overall quality of trade mark services in the region, to harmonise trade mark practices, and to discuss the technical and legal issues ASEAN IP Offices currently encounter.

Awareness-raising on intellectual property rights in the different ASEAN Member States

ARISE+ IPR developed national leaflets to raise awareness on intellectual property rights, with a focus on IPR infringements and enforcement for some interested ASEAN Member States (AMS). The areas covered are ARISE+ IPR’s scope, namely trade marks, industrial designs, and geographical indications. The leaflets are bilingual, that is, in both English and the local language.

Sakpatenti to obtain ISO 9001:2015 certificate in 2021

The EU Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) is supporting the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – Sakpatenti – in becoming an ISO 9001:2015 certified organisation. Two events were held in the second semester of 2020, exchanging experiences with the services responsible for quality standards at the IP Office of Lithuania and of the EUIPO.

Geographical indications landscape in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) Member States

Geographical indications (GIs) give added value to the local economy of several countries globally. The GI protection system identifies goods that come from a specific geographical area, guarantees their quality and improves their reputation. There are many GIs in the world and the European Union (EU) encourages and supports the strong protection and enforcement of intellectual property (IP) in all countries.
