The EUIPO supports the Republic of Moldova’s EU integration path by fostering regional dialogue on IP and the audiovisual industry
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) supported a regional conference on promoting creative industries, held in Chișinău on 29-30 September 2026, in the framework of the EU-funded EU4IP project.
Following the successful conference on IP and creative industries held in 2025, this year´s event was co-organised by the State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova (AGEPI), the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and other international partners. It brought together representatives of public institutions, intellectual property (IP) professionals, creators and international experts from the Republic of Moldova, the Western Balkans, Ukraine, and Armenia to discuss the role of intellectual property in fostering the development of the audiovisual industry.
The conference provided a platform for discussions on the contribution of copyright and related rights to the creative economy, as well as on effective IP strategies that can support innovation, creativity and business development in an increasingly digital environment. Participants exchanged views on the international and European legal frameworks for copyright and related rights, as well as on the role of IP in supporting the growth and competitiveness of the audiovisual sector.
Particular attention was given to the ownership, licensing and transfer of rights in audiovisual works, collective rights management mechanisms, and the monetisation and distribution of audiovisual content in the digital environment. Discussions also addressed cross-border licensing, international co-productions, digital rights management, artificial intelligence, online enforcement and the evolving role of copyright authorities in responding to technological developments affecting the audiovisual sector.
The conference further examined the role of education, capacity building and international partnerships in supporting the development of creative industries. Participants exchanged views on how cooperation between IP offices, public authorities, international organisations and industry stakeholders can contribute to a more dynamic and resilient creative IP system.
This is the second regional initiative under the EU4IP umbrella, the first one bringing together participants from the Western Balkans, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and Armenia, the conference provided an opportunity to strengthen regional dialogue, exchange experiences and explore future cooperation in the audiovisual and IP fields.
Through the EU-funded EU4IP project, the EUIPO continues to support EU accession ambitions of the Republic of Moldova by aligning its IP framework with EU standards and international best practices, contributing to a more predictable and accessible environment for creators, rights holders and businesses.
In the field of copyright, the EUIPO Copyright Knowledge Centre serves as a central access point for copyright information and resources. It brings together copyright-related information, studies, case law, training materials and databases, while also providing information on developments in copyright, including generative artificial intelligence.
