Capacity building for the registration and promotion of agricultural, craft and industrial geographical indications in Armenia

Target Country: Armenia
IPR area: Geographical Indications

Under the EU–Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), Armenia is committed to approximating its legal and institutional frameworks with EU standards, including in the field of IP and Geographical Indications (GIs). The national legal framework on GIs in Armenia provides a basis for registration and protection, but further alignment with EU practices is needed to enhance interoperability and support Armenian producers in accessing EU markets.

This activity aims to strengthen the practical capacity of Armenian authorities and examiners responsible for GI registration, examination, and protection. It seeks to build expertise on the technical and procedural aspects of GI administration, improve understanding of EU methodologies, and support the development of effective national systems for the registration and promotion of GIs for agricultural, craft and industrial products that hold strong cultural and economic potential.

Ultimately, the training contributes to Armenia’s broader CEPA objectives of fostering innovation, protecting local heritage, and enhancing the competitiveness of Armenian products in the EU and global markets.
