Sakpatenti to visit Spanish Patent and Trade Mark Office and GI producers
On 22 - 24 March 2023, Sakpatenti staff will travel to Spain to participate in two activities under the current EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) Annual Work Plan.
From 22 - 23 March, the Georgian delegation will visit the Spanish Patent and Trade Mark Office (OEPM) where they will have the opportunity to discuss local practices in the field of IP pre-diagnostic services for SMEs. Selected Sakpatenti staff will be able to learn about local procedures and to gain valuable knowledge to set up similar services in Georgia.
Afterwards, on 24 March, the delegation will also visit the Regulatory Authority of the Protected Designation of Origin ‘Manchego Cheese’ (Consejo Regulador Denominación de Origen Queso Machego) in Valdepeñas. Participants will learn directly from GI producers based in the EU about certification, registration and audit procedures, both from a theoretical and practical perspective.
The two events organised by EUGIPP, will support Sakpatenti on several fronts:
- developing IP pre-diagnostic services for the benefit of SMEs;
- assisting Georgian business associations in the field of geographical indications (GIs) to gain more experience of GI certification procedures in the EU.
This programme aims to support the activities of the Georgian public and private sectors in key IP areas and thus help to align and adapt Georgian practices with the standards established in the EU.
