Support business category associations in the field of geographical indications (GIs)

The activity proposed consists of a study trip of Georgian GI business associations to European Union Member States. They will visit some of the main GI producers in the EU and learn about the processes and procedures in place to guarantee that all certification requirements are met.

The visit will consist of travelling to an EU country where the protection of GIs is part of a long-standing tradition and the procedures in place are well-structured. The activity will involve a theoretical part, where EU GI producers will describe the techniques and procedures applied to protects their products. Moreover, there will also be practical demonstrations and visits to installations to allow Georgian participants to get hands on experience of how the theory is applied in practice.

Moreover, in view of the upcoming WIPO symposium on geographical indications, which will take place in Georgia in 2023, the EUGIPP will assist Sakpatenti in providing expertise and support for the benefit of Georgian business associations. The practical organisation aspects will be further discussed with the beneficiary, considering the limited resources and time constraint before the project termination in June 2023.
