Webinar on Intellectual Property, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions
On 30 November, CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation (CarIPI) partnered with the World Intellectual Property Office and the Government of Suriname to hold a webinar on the subject of genetic resources, traditional knowledge and folklore. The aim of this activity was to dig deeper into the subject matter and share an international, national and regional overview on intellectual property, traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions.
This November webinar built upon September’s inaugural webinar on best practices when using systems to grant and regulate access to genetic resources, and the traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources, organised by CarIPI. During this previous webinar, new regional stakeholders from the environmental sector and the European Union discussed actions to strengthen permit provisions. This included the incorporation of benefit-sharing clauses as a potential interim measure until comprehensive national access and benefit-sharing systems can be fully developed. The event generated a lot of interest among all the participants.
