Moldova and Ukraine participate in the International IP Enforcement Summit
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the framework of the EU-funded EU4IP project, has supported the participation of enforcement experts from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in the International IP Enforcement Summit, that took place on 12-13 June 2025 in Athens, Greece.
This summit is Europe’s largest high-level event on intellectual property (IP) enforcement. It brings together industry leaders, policymakers, enforcement authorities, multinational enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and consumer representatives to discuss and develop strategies to effectively combat IP crime. The focus of this year's event includes innovative solutions, cooperation frameworks, and legal practices aimed at enhancing IP protection ahead of the implementation of the 2026-2030 cycle of the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT).
In the context of the EU4IP project, the EUIPO supported the participation of experts from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, providing them with a platform to engage with European and international stakeholders. Through dedicated sessions and networking opportunities, participants gained insights into the latest developments in IP enforcement to align their national frameworks with EU standards and practices. This enabled them to support their commitments under their respective EU Association Agreements and advance their EU accession processes.
The event also offered specialised knowledge exchanges and showcased effective practices in criminal, civil and customs enforcement against IP infringements, including strategies tailored to the digital environment. Participants had the opportunity to engage with EU prosecutors, customs authorities and other law enforcement professionals, strengthening international cooperation to address global IP crime effectively.
As host of the Observatory on Infringements of IP Rights, the EUIPO continues to demonstrate its leadership and commitment to promoting and protecting IP rights, fostering a secure environment conducive to innovation and business development in partner countries. Outcomes and recommendations from the summit will further reinforce the capacity of Moldova and Ukraine to effectively tackle counterfeiting, piracy and other IP-related crimes, ensuring a robust, EU-aligned IP enforcement landscape.
