EUIPO supports Collaborative Mock Session Preparing Ukraine for IP Compliance
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) supported a second mock negotiation session on intellectual property (IP) compliance, organised by the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations (UANIPIO) in collaboration with the European Patent Office (EPO), together with the Latvian IP Office in a ‘Team Europe’ spirit.
Held on 21-22 November 2024, the session focused on Chapter 7 of the EU acquis, which governs IP law compliance and enforcement. The EUIPO facilitated the involvement of relevant expertise as part of its ad-hoc support, assisting Ukraine in addressing challenges within its IP framework and preparing for formal EU accession negotiations.
This second-phase activity builds on the initial mock session, equipping Ukrainian authorities, including UANIPIO representatives, with practical skills and strategic insights for the formal EU accession process. During the session, participants engaged in scenario-based exercises simulating real negotiation conditions, addressing specific challenges in Ukraine’s current IP system.
Experts from the Latvian IP Office, EPO and other contributors shared best practices to enhance Ukraine’s alignment with European IP standards. Topics covered included legal harmonisation, enforcement mechanisms, and institutional capacity-building to meet EU requirements effectively.
The EUIPO continues to play a key role in facilitating knowledge exchange and collaboration under the EU4IP project. By leveraging expertise across the European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN) and partner organisations, these efforts ensure Ukraine’s readiness for its accession journey while strengthening its IP framework to support innovation and economic growth.
