Integration of IP administration tools (EUIPN search and classification databases) in AIPO

Target Country: Armenia
IPR area: Cross IP

The European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN) has developed a suite of digital tools that facilitate trade mark and design administration, from search and classification functionalities to comprehensive front- and back-office systems used across the EU national and regional IP offices.

For the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Armenia (AIPO), the integration of key EUIPN tools such as TMview, DesignView, TMclass and DesignClass represents a major step towards digital modernisation and alignment with EU practices. It will enhance procedural transparency, improve the quality of examination, and make IP filing services more user-friendly for local applicants and businesses. The translation of the Harmonised Database (HDB) and the Harmonised Database of Product Indications (HDBPI) into Armenian will further strengthen accessibility and predictability for trade mark and design applicants.

These databases are the largest multilingual resources for goods, services and product indications, pre-approved by all EU national and regional IP offices and the EUIPO:
-    TMview and DesignView will enable users to search trade marks and designs registered in participating offices worldwide. Integration into these databases allows AIPO to publish its trade mark and design data globally, improving visibility and transparency.
-    TMclass and DesignClass are classification tools supporting applicants and examiners in selecting harmonised terms for goods, services and product indications. The inclusion of Armenian translations of the HDB and HDBPI will reduce translation costs, ensure legal certainty and help streamline the examination process.

This activity aligns with AIPO’s ongoing institutional reforms prioritising the digitalisation of services and modernisation of IT infrastructure, as highlighted in AIPO’s 2024 annual report. The initiative also supports the EU–Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement commitments to strengthen IP systems and bring them closer to EU standards.
