E-learning course on protecting origin-linked products using geographical indications – now available
The CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation (CarIPI) has just launched a course on origin-linked products (OLPs) and geographical indications (GIs).
Geographical indications, certification and collective marks, are collective intellectual property rights. When combined with the right business strategy, these tools can help products stand out in the market and help fight against unfair competition. Research shows that consumers are prepared to pay 40 % more for a product protected by a GI than for a similar product without GI protection. GIs also benefit local communities because products are linked to a specific territory and production remains local.
This eLearning course is designed to provide you with a basic understanding of how to use intellectual property tools, more specifically GIs. The course will show you how to get the most value out of your origin-linked products.
The course is split over three modules, with a total of eight sessions. You will also be given resource materials in the form of short videos and text.
It is totally free of charge and can be followed at your own pace.
Send any queries or suggestions to the project team at (caripi@euipo.europa.eu).
