Technical assistance to set-up a PVR registration system in St. Vincent & the Grenadines

Following Saint Vincent and the Grenadines UPOV accession, CarIPI has started technical assistance to put in place a registration system. Building on the experience and the lessons learnt in the Dominican Republic, where with the support by CarIPI a Plant Variety Rights registration system was implemented, the project is currently working on the establishment of a similar system in this country. This initiative intends to boost the capacity to process new varieties of plants, which are expected to have a positive economic impact in the region.

After the implementation of regulations that complement the national law, and the development of PVR examination guidelines and forms in compliance with international / UPOV standards, on 8-9 November a training of staff and examiners of plant varieties in St. Vincent and the Grenadines was delivered.
