IP Day Seminar and Technical Assistance Meetings with Producer Groups in Grenada

From 3–5 May 2023, CarIPI’s project expert Dr. Wendy Hollingsworth, travelled to Grenada to make in-person presentations to promote project activities and raise awareness among decision makers in the public and private sectors on how intellectual property rights contribute to economic and social development.

On the first day, CarIPI participated in a post World IP Day workshop for the fashion sector as part of the Country’s strategic focus on the creative industries sector. The presentation considered the World IP Day theme for 2023 which is: Women and IP: Accelerating innovation and creativity.

During the following two days, the project organised face-to-face meetings with select GI producer groups from Grenada as part of the CarIPI’s OLP Mentorship Programme.

Following an online session with interested producer organisations in the country held on 22 March, 2023, the producers receiving support include Grenada Cooperative Nutmeg Association, Grenada Cocoa Association, Soursop Marketing and National Importing Board, Grenada Beekeepers Association, Grenada Rum Producers Association, River Antoine Estate producer of River Antoine Rum, and Cane Co producers of Renegade Rum.

The CarIPI OLP mentorship programme is designed to provide producer groups with technical assistance to develop business strategies, based on IP rights, to enhance the competitiveness of unique agricultural and non-agricultural products produced in the CARIFORUM region.

The technical assistance meetings are part of CarIPI’s Annual Work Plan 4, Activity 18: Mentorship programme: potential GI value chains.
