ARISE+ IPR supports the DIP Thailand Photo Contest and encourages creators to adopt greener alternatives

This year ARISE+ IPR has joined the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Thailand in the organization of the DIP Photo Contest on the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day. On 26 April 2020, the contest was announced on DIP and ARISE+ IPR social media channels, calling for individuals who are interested in the contest to submit a photo with accompanying description that falls under the theme defined by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), namely ‘Innovate for a Green Future’.

One may refer to innovation as newly innovated technologies. However, to innovate can also mean creating new things that pave our way to the development in terms of economy, agriculture, and culture, for instance. In this way, to innovate for a green future is to adopt greener alternatives and apply greener methods in creating a workpiece of one’s expertise.

“We are appreciated to be a part of the photo contest initiated and organized by the DIP Thailand,” share Carolina Pitarch, ARISE+ IPR Deputy Project Leader. “This contest is a great opportunity for the project to help encourage the general public in reflecting on the idea of sustainable development and extend the European Union (EU) support to producers, innovators, artists, and entrepreneurs in the ASEAN countries who are on their environmental-friendly journeys.”

The contest runs from 5 May until 5 June 2020 and opens doors to professional photographers, amateurs and the general public who are interested in capturing innovative ideas through a camera lens. In June, 12 finalists will be selected by three jury members, including experts on intellectual property, innovation, and photography, and take part in an online program to receive the jury members’ feedback on their photographs and hear the results. Moreover, the submitted photo that gains most ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ on the DIP Facebook page will receive the Popular Vote Award.

“On the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day this year, we would like to celebrate the works of all creators both in and outside of the region and are eager to support them in having their intellectual property rights protected,” she added.

The contest has received the joint support from the European Union (EU) through ARISE+ IPR and IP Key South-East Asia (SEA) projects, the United States Embassy Bangkok, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO Bangkok).
