Official inauguration of AL-INVEST Verde IPR in Montevideo

On 21 November in Montevideo, the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of Uruguay, Omar Paganini, opens the official inauguration conference of the Action AL-INVEST Verde IPR. The Minister is accompanied at the opening by the Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to Uruguay, Paolo Berizzi, and the Head of the International Cooperation Service of the EUIPO, Ignacio de Medrano.

The conference officially launches AL-INVEST Verde IPR in Uruguay and features several top European and international speakers in the field of intellectual property and innovation. The first panel called "The Socio-Economic Importance of Intellectual Property and the Challenges of Sustainable Growth" features a first presentation by Carolina Arias Burgos, Economist at the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights of the EUIPO, on the economic impact of IP-intensive industries and new evidence from Europe and Latin America. And a second presentation on the challenge of sustainable growth and the contribution of IPRs given by Beatriz Bugallo, Professor of Commercial Law at the University of the Republic of Uruguay.

The second panel entitled "The Modernisation of the IP System: Challenges for Administrations and for the Productive Sector" includes a first presentation by Miguel Olivares from the EUIPO on the challenge of the digitalisation of IP offices. Followed by a presentation by Martha Caviglia, Member of the Copyright Council of Uruguay, focusing on the challenges of the modernisation of the IP system in the field of copyright and the competitiveness of the creative industries. And as a third speaker Ernesto Rubio, International IP Expert, with a presentation with emphasis on the internationalisation of the activity of SMEs in relation to IPRs.

And finally, the closing round table focuses on the national perspectives of the modernisation of the IP system and its challenges, with participation of the high representation of all the intellectual property offices of the Mercosur countries and Chile: Santiago Martinez, Director of DNPI Uruguay; Monica Gay, President of INPI Argentina; Loreto Bresky, National Director of INAPI Chile; Joel Talavera, National Director, and Berta Davalos, IP Director, of DINAPI Paraguay; and Vinicius Bogéa Câmara, representing the Presidency of INPI Brazil.

This event is followed by a "Regional workshop on the extension of tools and practices" organised by the EUIPO bilateral team which offers a technical extension to the launch of AL-INVEST Verde IPR, counting on the presence of representatives of the divisions in charge of trademarks, information technology, and international cooperation from the national IP offices of Mercosur and Chile.
