EUIPO project AL-INVEST Verde IPR highlights the role of intellectual property in sustainable development at Inova Amazônia Summit 2025

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the context of the EU-funded project AL-INVEST Verde IPR, actively participated in the Inova Amazônia Summit 2025 held in Macapá, Brazil from 21-23 May. As the largest bioeconomy-focused event in the Amazon region, the Summit brings together over 5,000 entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, and sustainability advocates to shape the future of green development in the Amazon.

Building on its successful participation in last year’s edition, the AL-INVEST Verde IPR project returns to emphasize the crucial role of intellectual property (IP) in sustainable development and inclusive economic growth across the Amazon.

The project contributed to the Summit by participating in the panel “Amazon Narratives: using IPR to promote Amazon forest products” on May 23, raising awareness about the important role of IP rights in protecting and commercializing Amazonian products in alignment with local traditions and biodiversity.

The participation underscores the EUIPOs commitment to supporting the Europe’s green transition by granting IP rights to protect green innovation and fostering green practices. While also aligning with broader EU priorities in the lead-up to COP30, which will take place in Belém (Brazil) in November 2025, reinforcing the importance of sustainable, locally-driven solutions to global environmental challenges.
