World IP Day in Cooperation with WIPO

World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated every 26 April to increase intellectual property (IP) awareness.

World IP Day is an opportunity to highlight the role that IP rights (patents, utility models, industrial designs, trade marks, and copyright) play in encouraging innovation and creativity. A balanced IP system recognises and rewards inventors and creators for their work and ensures that society benefits from their creativity and ingenuity.

This year, the World IP Day celebrations will be on 25 and 26 April 2022. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), with the support of AfrIPI, will organise a hybrid event in Kigali, Rwanda, to create IP awareness among the African youth, innovators and start-ups. The theme is “IP and Youth: Innovating for a Better Future.”

WIPO will collaborate with the regional partners in Africa, the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle (OAPI) and AfrIPI to raise awareness and promote IP use among African small and medium-sized enterprises.
