Trade mark and Industrial Designs Guidelines: revision and technical working group participation (Egypt twinning project)

The twinning project ‘Trade marks and Industrial Designs Office’ was initiated on the 20 January 2020 and is scheduled for implementation over a period of 18 months, with the objective of strengthening the protection of trade marks and industrial designs in Egypt.

The EUIPO supports the above objectives of the twinning project via the AfrIPI project, especially in the capacity building efforts. AfrIPI has been supporting the Egyptian partners by:

  • providing comments and suggestions for amendments on the guidelines;
  • discussing the contents of the guidelines with other members of the working group;
  • putting forward possible proposals for amendments of underlying IP legislation.

A first draft of the guidelines is currently being prepared and once available, AfrIPI and the Egyptian partners will organise training sessions (virtual and also face-to-face if possible) and collect input from examiners at the Egyptian office. The input will serve to further improve and finalise the guidelines.
