Welcome, Timor-Leste: A New Chapter in ASEAN Cooperation and Intellectual Property Development

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the context of the EU-funded SCOPE IPR project, extends their warmest congratulations to the Government and people of Timor-Leste on the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste becoming the 11 Member State of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on 26 October 2025, at the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This historic milestone marks the culmination of years of commitment and preparation by Timor-Leste and its ASEAN partners toward deeper regional integration, cooperation and shared prosperity.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) expresses its condolences and solidarity with the people of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of Indonesia in the aftermath of torrential rains and severe flooding, which have caused extensive loss of life, widespread destruction of villages and infrastructure, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people.

Participation in IP Events

From July 2025 to May 2026, SCOPE IPR will be actively engaging in key national and regional intellectual property (IP) events across ASEAN to increase the visibility and impact of its work. By participating in high-profile occasions such as World IP Day celebrations and other major conferences, SCOPE IPR aims to showcase the vital role of IP as a driver of socioeconomic development and sustainability in the region.

Social Media Campaign on the Importance of IP Rights

Running from August 2025 to April 2026, this regional social media campaign aims to raise awareness among ASEAN audiences about the value of intellectual property (IP) for society, creators, and businesses, especially MSMEs. As part of SCOPE IPR’s continued commitment to public education, the campaign will focus on fostering wider discussions about IP rights through engaging and accessible content.

ASEAN Media Knowledge Camp: Advancing IP Awareness and Enforcement

To be held in November 2025, the ASEAN Media Knowledge Camp is designed to strengthen public understanding of intellectual property (IP) and the importance of enforcement by engaging directly with journalists and social media influencers from across the region. Supporting Initiative 12.1 of the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2016-2025, the activity addresses two key challenges identified through stakeholder feedback: the need to improve IP enforcement and the lack of public awareness of the benefits of IP.

On-Demand Technical Assistance for the Implementation of the ASEAN IPR Post-2025 Action Plan

From June 2025 to May 2026, this on-demand activity will provide targeted technical support to ASEAN Member States for the implementation of the forthcoming ASEAN IPR Post-2025 Action Plan. As the AWGIPC finalises its new strategy with support from WIPO, this activity ensures continuity from earlier work under SCOPE IPR, particularly in developing performance measurement tools.
