Researcher Dr. Alessandra Alves de Souza, a geneticist and inventor of the agricultural use of the molecule N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and its analogues, was announced as the Brazilian winner of the Ingenias LATAM 2025 award for her nationally protected invention for the treatment and prevention of bacterial diseases in citrus plants that produce fruit such as oranges, tangerines and lemons. The award is an initiative of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the framework of the EU-funded AL-INVEST Verde DPI project.

Silvana Herrera Leiva, product designer and inventor of a sensory band for the detection of obstacles in the visual field, was announced as the Chilean winner of the Ingenias LATAM 2025 award for her nationally and internationally protected invention to assist visually impaired people. The award is an initiative of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the framework of the EU-funded AL-INVEST Verde DPI project. Its objective is to make visible and promote female talent at in the field of intellectual property (IP) and innovation in Latin America.

The winners of the first edition of the Ingenias LATAM Award, an initiative of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in the framework of the AL-INVEST Verde DPI project, funded by the European Union, were announced on 4 September 2025. The emotional ceremony took place at the headquarters of the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) in Santiago de Chile, co-organiser and host of this first edition of the award.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) congratulates Paraguay’s National Directorate of Intellectual Property (DINAPI) on the elaboration of its first national Trade Mark Examination Guidelines. This milestone is a significant step toward reinforcing the accessibility, coherence, and predictability of trade mark examination procedures in Paraguay.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) proudly celebrates the historic recognition of Honey from Ñeembucú as the first ever registered geographical indication (GI) in Paraguay. The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the framework of the EU-funded project AL-INVEST Verde IPR, in collaboration with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and its Inovateca as well as Brazil’s National Institute for Industrial Property (INPI) carried out two expert-led webinars in June and July aimed at boosting intellectual property (IP) knowledge and strategic use in the creative industries.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the context of the EU-funded IP cooperation project AL-INVEST Verde IPR, celebrates important advancements in the mentorship for producers of geographical indications (GIs) in the Andean Community. The initiative spans Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador, and aims to empower producer associations by enhancing the value, visibility, and sustainability of their GI-labelled agri-food products.

The first day of the closing event of AL-INVEST Verde IPR project, organised in collaboration with SEBRAE Origens, brought together some of its main partners, the IP offices from MERCOSUR countries and Chile, and representatives from the productive sector, SMEs, producers and experts to discuss how intellectual property can generate sustainable value from territories to markets. Through panels, case studies and mentoring experiences, the role of trade marks, geographical indications and innovation in building more inclusive and competitive development in Latin America were highlighted.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) will organise the event #CONEXIÓNVerde+ in Medellín, Colombia, in collaboration with the other implementing partners of the AL-INVEST Verde programme: the development organisation 'sequa', the International Italo-Latin American Organisation (IIlLA), and the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Public Administration and Policy (FIAPP), in the context of the EU-funded IP cooperation project AL-INVEST Verde IPR or Component 3 the Programme.

The Ingenias LATAM Award is an initiative of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the context of the EU-funded project AL-INVEST Verde IPR. Its main objective is to showcase women innovators from Latin-America and their creations and inventions on an international stage. The first edition will be hosted by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) of Chile, a global leader in fostering an inclusive IP landscape.
