Inventor of innovative technology to combat bacterial diseases in citrus plants wins Ingenias LATAM 2025 for Brazil

Researcher Dr. Alessandra Alves de Souza, a geneticist and inventor of the agricultural use of the molecule N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and its analogues, was announced as the Brazilian winner of the Ingenias LATAM 2025 award for her nationally protected invention for the treatment and prevention of bacterial diseases in citrus plants that produce fruit such as oranges, tangerines and lemons. The award is an initiative of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the framework of the EU-funded AL-INVEST Verde DPI project.

Inventor of a sensory band that gives autonomy to the visually impaired wins Ingenias LATAM 2025 for Chile

Silvana Herrera Leiva, product designer and inventor of a sensory band for the detection of obstacles in the visual field, was announced as the Chilean winner of the Ingenias LATAM 2025 award for her nationally and internationally protected invention to assist visually impaired people. The award is an initiative of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in the framework of the EU-funded AL-INVEST Verde DPI project. Its objective is to make visible and promote female talent at in the field of intellectual property (IP) and innovation in Latin America.

Women inventors honoured in the Ingenias LATAM 2025 Award: women transforming innovation in Latin America

The winners of the first edition of the Ingenias LATAM Award, an initiative of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in the framework of the AL-INVEST Verde DPI project, funded by the European Union, were announced on 4 September 2025. The emotional ceremony took place at the headquarters of the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) in Santiago de Chile, co-organiser and host of this first edition of the award.

AL-INVEST Verde IPR Closing Event: Past and Future – Innovation, Sustainability and Intellectual Property | Day 1 IP and the Productive Sector

The first day of the closing event of AL-INVEST Verde IPR project, organised in collaboration with SEBRAE Origens, brought together some of its main partners, the IP offices from MERCOSUR countries and Chile, and representatives from the productive sector, SMEs, producers and experts to discuss how intellectual property can generate sustainable value from territories to markets. Through panels, case studies and mentoring experiences, the role of trade marks, geographical indications and innovation in building more inclusive and competitive development in Latin America were highlighted.
