From 24-26 January 2023, CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation (CarIPI) organised a series of online “sensitization” meetings with teachers from Antigua and Barbuda. The sessions provided them with an introduction to IP basics.
On 17 January 2023, the CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation (CarIPI) project organised an online workshop targeted at the 16 CARIFORUM IP offices to further discuss common practices in trade mark examination.
CarIPI has previously held several workshops aiming to provide guidance for trade mark applicants and examiners, and use their results to increase transparency, certainty and predictability of trade mark examination procedures in the Caribbean region.
On 24 January 2023, CarIPI organised a training session on “TM opposition proceedings and hearings” directed at intellectual property (IP) examiners from the CARIFORUM IP offices. The training is expected to strengthen the technical capacities and skills on TM examination, with particular focus on TM opposition proceedings for effective administration of IP systems at the national, regional and international levels.
On 2 December 2022, the CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation (CarIPI) project and the Bureau of Intellectual Property of Suriname organised a joint information session on the Hague system1 to protect national and international designs.
On 24 November 2022, the Government of Belize, through its intellectual property office (BELIPO), presented the World Intellectual Property Office its instrument of accession to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks.
From 24 to 27 October 2022, the CarIPI team organised face-to-face meetings between mentors and producer groups from Dominica and Saint Lucia. This formed part of the project’s Mentorship Programme, which provides technical support to selected producer groups of origin-linked products (OLP).
On 30 November, CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation (CarIPI) partnered with the World Intellectual Property Office and the Government of Suriname to hold a webinar on the subject of genetic resources, traditional knowledge and folklore. The aim of this activity was to dig deeper into the subject matter and share an international, national and regional overview on intellectual property, traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions.
