On 28 June 2022, the CarIPI project organised its first online session to promote opportunities for research cooperation between EU and CARIFORUM countries. There was a strong focus on the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Programme. Researchers, research institutions, industry representatives and private sector stakeholders from the Caribbean region took part in the session.
On 19-20 May, CarIPI, the European Union’s Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) and the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) organised a seminar on regional cooperation in plant variety protection at the Office of Plant Variety Registration and Protection of Breeders' Rights (OREVADO), of the Ministry of Agriculture in the Dominican Republic.
On 29 April 2022, CarIPI will collaborate with the Jamaican IP Office (JIPO) to organise an online event as part of this years’ World IP Day celebrations. In line with the theme “IP and Youth”, Ms.
On 31 May 2022, CarIPI held the ‘GI as ingredient’ webinar, designed mainly for producers of products protected by geographical indications (GIs). The purpose of the webinar was to improve their capabilities and explain how a GI-protected product can be used as an ingredient under certain conditions, and how those conditions might be created and sustained.
On 19-20 May, CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation, together with the CPVO and UPOV, organised an in-person seminar on Regional Cooperation in PVR in the Dominican Republic. There was also a study visit to some breeders’ companies that benefit from the PVR system. The event targeted decision makers from agricultural ministries, IP offices and/or EPA coordinators.
