GIs for ASEAN Countries: Prospects and Challenges
On 16-17 December in Luang Prabang, Laos, SCOPE IPR will hold a conference on Geographical Indications for ASEAN Countries: Prospects and Challenges. The conference aims to support South-East Asian intellectual property officials and geographical indications (GIs) stakeholders in strengthening their capacity to manage GIs. The event will highlight the cultural and economic importance of GIs in helping local producers protect and commercialise their unique products.
Following the conference, there will be a visit to local silk producers to offer an insight into the craftsmanship of Luang Prabang Silk, a GI-registered product recognised for its cultural heritage and sustainable production. This visit will highlight the role of GIs in preserving heritage and enhancing the market value of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) distinctive products.
