The Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) launch The Madrid Protocol Booklet - A guide to global branding for entrepreneurs in Jamaica

After the Madrid Protocol entering into force in Jamaica on 27 March 2022, The Madrid Protocol Booklet for Entrepreneurs in Jamaica has been launched to help small and medium-sized enterprises in Jamaica have a clear understanding of the Madrid System and all its benefits.

On 27 December 2021 the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) deposited at WIPO its instrument of accession, making it the fourth CARIFORUM country to join the Madrid System. From now on, local brand owners in Jamaica can register their trade marks globally by filing a single international application and paying a single set of fees.

This major step will facilitate foreign investment in Jamaica and make it easier for Jamaican entrepreneurs to do business in international markets.

In order to guide entrepreneurs through the international registration system CarIPI (CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation project), in cooperation with the JIPO developed a booklet which will serve as a reference document for companies who want to protect their brands in international markets.

If you are a company, society, firm, sole proprietor or any other entrepreneur and you have a basic trade mark (application or registration) in Jamaica, you can take advantage of the Madrid Protocol to protect your brand through the Madrid System which currently has 110 members (including the European Union and OAPI) and covers 126 countries. Check out the BOOKLET.
