Meeting between the President of the BoA of the EUIPO and the Chairman of Sakpatenti

On 18 February 2020, the EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project (EUGIPP) brought together the President of the Boards of Appeal (BoA) of the EUIPO, Mr Théophile Margellos, and the Chairman of Sakpatenti, Mr Mindia Davitadze. They discussed upcoming priorities for the project Annual Work Plan (AWP 2021).

In particular, the BoA will provide expertise in organising a workshop on alternative dispute resolution and mediation (Activity 12). The event will gather Georgian mediators, IP lawyers and Sakpatenti officials. The aim will be to share experiences and best practices.

The BoA will also support the standardisation and codification of the Chamber of Appeals at Sakpatenti (Activity 19). A comparative analysis will be carried out of the Statute of the Chamber of Appeals at Sakpatenti and the Boards of Appeal of the EUIPO. The analysis will assess the respective governing rules with a view to providing recommendations for further alignment. Additionally, information sharing sessions will take place on the BoA quality and standardisation processes.
