Sakpatenti drafting new IP guidelines
The EUGIPP (EU-Georgia Intellectual Property Project) is supporting Sakpatenti to draft a set of examination guidelines on trade marks and design as well as on enforcement of IP rights. Such guidelines are intended to directly benefit Sakpatenti examiners, enforcement authorities and users on the predictability and consistency of IP practices in the country. They will also favour the convergence of Georgian practice towards European standards.
Since April 2020, IP experts are drafting the first set of examination guidelines on designs in consultation with Georgian and international stakeholders. In June a contract was signed to start developing enforcement-related guidelines, while in the next coming weeks a similar activity will be launched with the purpose of drafting examination guidelines on trade marks.
The EUGIPP aims to provide adequate and effective protection and enforcement of IP rights in Georgia. The official start date of the project is 1 January 2020 and will run for three years.
