Workshop on IPR Support for Business and IP Valuation
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), in collaboration with the Japan Patent Office (JPO), organised, within the framework of the EU–Japan Intellectual Property Action (EU–Japan IPA), a two-day online workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Support for Business and IP Valuation, held on 7–8 September 2026.
The workshop brought together institutional representatives and experts from Europe and Japan to examine the role of intellectual property in business development, valuation and access to finance, with a particular focus on SMEs.
During the workshop, the EUIPO presented its work on IP-backed finance, including the findings of its study on the state of play and future perspectives of IP-backed finance in Europe, as well as its IP-Backed Finance Roadmap. Representatives from the JPO, JPAA, the European Commission, INPIT, the European Investment Fund and the Development Bank of Japan shared perspectives on IP valuation, SME finance-readiness, guarantee mechanisms and the use of IP-related information in financing decisions. Through case studies, success stories and panel discussions, participants exchanged experiences and explored opportunities for strengthening EU–Japan cooperation on the integration of intellectual property into business and financing strategies.
