EU-Korea Seminars on IP Enforcement in Seoul
The EU–RoK IP Action, funded and directed by the European Commission and implemented by the EUIPO, organised two enforcement-focused activities in Seoul on 17 and 18 June 2026, fostering closer collaboration between EU and Korean stakeholders:
- Seminar on Cross-Border Enforcement Against Online Piracy and Counterfeiting
- Seminar on Public–Private Collaboration in IP Enforcement in the EU and Korea
The first session focused on IP enforcement mechanisms in the EU and Korea, with special attention to cross-border enforcement challenges and sharing of best practices. The session brought together representatives from European and Korean law enforcement and regulatory authorities, including the European Commission’s Directorate General for Trade, the EU Delegation in the Republic of Korea, Europol, the Dutch Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD), the EU Observatory on Infringements of IPRs, the Copyright Special Judicial Police and the Trademark Special Judicial Police of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), and the Ministry of Intellectual Property (MOIP) of Korea respectively.
The second session focused on the public–private cooperation models to combat online IP infringements. The dialogue covered industry expectations, legal and practical boundaries, and best practices in collaborative enforcement, highlighting successful case studies to encourage mutual learning.
By combining policy dialogue with practical operational exchanges, these activities strengthened EU–Republic of Korea IP cooperation and laid a basis for further exchanges. Looking ahead, the EU–RoK IP Action remains committed to deepening collaboration between authorities, rightsholders, and digital platforms to ensure effective IP protection in an increasingly digital and interconnected global economy.
